“Trinity River Cascade” is an environmental artwork that is activated with an experience of flows—water, light, vehicular, and pedestrian. This image shows cascades that cleanse and aerate river water; a weir that provides a pedestrian crossing; and, terraced banks that provide multiple river access points. “Trinity River Cascade” draws upon the region’s natural limestone formations, Fort Worth’s Art Deco tradition, the surrounding Fort Worth Cultural District, and the Southwest Parkway’s established design aesthetic. Located at the intersection of a parkway underpass and the river, the environmental artwork is an “urban grotto.” It connects people to the flows of both the parkway and river with light works, stacked terraces, overlooks, cascades, and a bridge/dam. By drawing people out of their cars, it offers an opportunity to slow down and experience this unique intersection of parkway and river.
